Jake Barrutia's approach of playing in less club games during the offseason has paid off for Bartlett. The left-handed hitting outfielder/first baseman is batting .479 heading into the Class 4A state playoffs.
Soon-to-be Webster University outfielder Chris Wick tossed his first career complete game in just his third pitching appearance this spring to lead Bartlett to a 5-1 Upstate Eight River victory over host Metea Valley on Thursday.
Metea Valley changed its approach at the plate and that paid big dividends as the Mustangs came away with a 13-3 marathon victory over Bartlett in Upstate Eight Valley action on Wednesday afternoon.
Karli Dobler took over in the circle for South Elgin in the second inning and pitched out of a bases-loaded jam. She held Bartlett to a single run the rest of the way as the Storm clawed its way back for a 9-7 win Monday.
