While disabled swimmers have been quick to take advantage of the opportunity to participate in IHSA competition, other athletes haven’t shown as much interest. Why that is remains hard to say.
Grayslake Central had a 10-run fifth inning that started with Lakes ahead 4-2 and ended with the Rams cruising to a 12-4 win at the semifinals of the Class 3A Ridgewood Sectional in Norridge.
After losing one of its best players to injury before the match, Lakes rallied in Game 1 and then finished off host Antioch 25-23, 25-21 on Monday in the quarterfinals of the Antioch Regional.
Prairie Ridge, which finished second in Class 2A last season, grabbed a quick three goal lead and never looked back in a 4-1 victory over host Lakes in a Class 2A regional final on Saturday.
Playing in a drizzle most of the way, the pitchers and position players on both sides made plays when they needed to, as visiting Carmel defeated Lakes 2-0 in a nonconference game in which 19 runners were left on base.
Montini routed Westinghouse 60-12 and Harvard rolled Lakes 57-12 as both teams qualified for the Class 2A quarterfinals this weekend in Bloomington. Montini had five pins, while Harvard pinned four of its opponents.
