In a true nail-biter, the North Shore girls basketball team slipped past host Chicagoland Jewish 33-30 in Class 1A regional action Tuesday night.
Holding a 30-29 lead with 21.3 seconds left in regulation, the Tigers threw the ball away. Following a timeout, Raiders sophomore forward Kayla Robinson banged in a layup for a 31-30 lead and sophomore guard Annie Kroll completed the scoring with a pair of free throws in the final seconds after Chicagoland Jewish lost possession and committed a foul.
North Shore (9-9) led 14-12 at halftime and 24-21 after three quarters.
“We came out hungry — we were ready,” said North Shore senior forward Ilhana Redzovic, who scored a team-high 12 points. “As coach [Dana Leonard] has said, ‘if you play hard, the game will take care of itself’.”
The Raiders will face Ida Crown for the regional title at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
