Pierce Dhaese caught a 10-yard touchdown pass with nine seconds remaining and Sawyer Reynolds ran in the ensuing two-point conversion as Oregon upset Wilmington 22-21 in a dramatic Class 3A playoff opener.
Wilmington (8-2) went up 21-14 with six minutes to go on a 19-yard touchdown reception from Alex Zlomie, but the Wildcats went three-and-out on their next possession. With less than a minute to go, Oregon (6-4) covered 57 yards on five plays capped by the touchdown to Dhaese.
Dhaese, a senior tight end, caught four passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yard scoring strike from quarterback Tyler Blume.
Wilmington’s Nick McWilliams led all rushers with 147 yards and two scores on 21 carries. Zlomie had all three of Wilmington receptions and finished with 90 yards. Oregon’s Garrett Rude rushed for 99 yards on nine carries.
