THE SKINNY

Fans of up-tempo, run-and-gun basketball would have loved to be in the bleachers for this game Wednesday night at Mundelein. Uplift (3-0) scored 54 points in the first half on its way to breaking the century mark in a game that did not feature much defense.

TURNING POINT

Mundelein whittled the Titans' 18-point first-quarter lead to 58-55 three minutes into the second half. An 11-2 run by Uplift got the lead back up to 18 points, at 75-57, at the end of the third quarter. Although the Mustangs (1-2) got as close as eight in the fourth quarter, they were unable to climb all the way back.

THE STAR

The Titans had four players in double digits. Senior guard Augustin Tronou had 31 points, senior guard Quintin Olagbegi had 24, junior Jamaya Wyatt threw in 13 and sophomore Danzel Davies finished with 10. Mundelein was led by senior guard Nate Williams, who scored 31 points.

BY THE NUMBERS

Mundelein finished with 14 3-pointers. In contrast, Uplift had only two from beyond the arc. The Titans scored primarily in the paint, making 34 2-point baskets.

QUOTABLE

“When you play fast and play the way we’re playing, you’re going to give up some baskets and people are going to think you aren’t playing any defense. Tonight, we didn’t play any defense. ” — Mundelein coach Corey Knigge
