Guerin 51, Kennedy 31

The Gators (3-6) took control early against the Crusaders (2-7) and kept the pressure on all game with an aggressive 1-2-2 zone defense and a balanced offense. Eight different players scored Friday for the Gators in an easy 51-31 win to open the Luther North tournament.

After a late first-quarter 3 by Crusaders' junior forward Fred West to cut the Gators' lead to 16-11, Gators junior guard Adam Castro responded with a buzzer-beating 3 to close the quarter. The Crusaders didn't get close after that.

Gators forward Anthony Marra led all scorers with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting and also had six rebounds in the win.

Gators senior center Dan Siman chipped in nine points off the bench and senior reserve forward Gavin Byrne added six second-half points. Crusaders senior guard Vonzell Williams led his team with 11 points in the loss. The Crusaders scored only six total points in the second and third quarters while the Gators tallied 19.

"We always want to take the high-percentage shots whenever possible and keep the pressure on and get our chances." — Marra
