Playing without star guard JayQuan McCloud (bad ankle/2 weeks), North Chicago didn’t a miss a beat as it routed second-place Wauconda in a North Suburban Conference Prairie Division game. The Hawks went old-school, wearing jerseys with sleeves, which is what they wore in the glory days of the 1960s when Rufus Woods ruled the Hawk roost.
THE TURNING POINT
Wauconda guard Joey Lovelle hit the first shot of the second quarter to tie the game at 14-14. North Chicago (14-2, 6-0) ) then outscored the visitors 55-18 during the rest of the middle two quarters. Kurt Hall had 11 points, two assists and a block in the second period and Arnold Shead had six points and three steals. In the third, Jay Amos-Mays had four dunks.
Hall was 8-of-13 from the field and had 22 points along with nine boards, three steals, three assists and two blocks.
BY THE NUMBERS
Wauconda (11-6, 3-2) ) got 10 points from Ricky Sidlowski and 8 from Dion Head who was 3-of-14 from the field and didn’t score after the first quarter. For North Chicago, Mays had 22 point, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.
