Newark 66, Indian Creek 58
Little 10 unbeatens Newark and Indian Creek battled three quarters for the conference lead Friday before Newark pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 66-58 win. The Norsemen had13 first-half turnovers, most unforced, but effectively defended 6-9 Garrison Govig. Balance also was a key as Newark placed four in double figures.
Leading only 39-37 after three quarters, the Norsemen went to 6-6 sophomore Jack Clausel for two quick scores to open the fourth. Matt Eike then drained a three as Newark scored the first 11 points to take charge.
Evan Schomer (game high 19 points) scored from in close and from three as Newark (14-7, 6-0) solved the Timberwolves’ man defense. Garrett Post led Indian Creek (11-6, 5-1) with 16 points.
BY THE NUMBERS
In support of Schomer, Eike and Will Clausel each had 14 points, Jack Clausel had 10, and Grant Riehle-Moeller nine. Newark was effective from long range at 4-of-9, but Indian Creek struggled with 3-of-15.
