St. Rita outscored De La Salle 18-8 in the third quarter, led by Victor Law’s six points to earn the Catholic League South road victory.
Dominique Matthews hit a jumper and was fouled as time expired in the first half, putting the senior to the line to tie the game. Matthews converted the free throw.
Matthews led all scorers with 25 points, going 9-for-9 from the line. Charles Matthews scored 14 points with eight rebounds and four assists, and Law scored nine points and collected six rebounds. Junior Brandon Hutton led De La Salle (9-10, 6-4) with 15 points and Karl Harris scored nine.
BY THE NUMBERS
Both teams saw plenty of action from the line but neither shot tremendously well. St. Rita (13-6, 8-1) shot 67 percent (16-of-24) while the Meteors made just 58 percent of their attempts (19-of-33).
