THE SKINNY: North Chicago saw an early 30-13 lead completely evaporate by the third quarter, but regrouped to earn a road victory over Warren (14-13) and reach the 20-win plateau.
THE TURNING POINT: Eric Gillespie of Warren hit a three-pointer to make it 60-58 North Chicago with 4:36 left, but Jamero Shelton scored a pair of hoops in an 8-0 run as the Hawks (20-3) regained control for good at 68-58.
THE STAR: In defeat, Warren’s Adrian Deere was 10-of-20 from the field, 4-of-10 from distance, and had five assists, four boards and four steals. At one point, he hit eight straight shots and started 9-of-11, but was 1-of-9 in the fourth quarter.
BY THE NUMBERS: For the winners, Shelton had 18 points, Kurt Hall 17, Arnold Shead 13 and JayQuan McCloud 11. McCloud didn’t play in the second half (bad ankle). For Warren, Gillespie had 18 points, Greg Swane 16, and James Beton five. Warren coach Ryan Webber said it’s the first time in his coaching career his team has lost four in a row.
