THE SKINNY

Thornton overpowered Lincoln-Way West for the SouthWest Suburban Red road win. Besides the Wildcats’ athleticism, an indication it might be a long night for West came when the Warriors lost track of time and didn’t attempt a shot as the first quarter ended.

TURNING POINT

Thornton was in charge from the beginning. The Wildcats (15-5, 9-2) started the game with an 8-0 run, led 22-11 after the first quarter and 46-23 at halftime.

THE STAR

Thornton’s Jamani Pierce scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the first half. The 6-5 senior also grabbed six rebounds.

BY THE NUMBERS

Pierce, Da’Marques Turner (14 points) and Justin Taylor (10 points, seven rebounds) played just three quarters for Thornton. Eleven Wildcats made the scorebook. D’Andre Fuller contributed seven points off the bench. Hayden Witt scored 13 points and Jon Marotta 11 for West (12-8, 6-5).

QUOTABLE

“We’re making the shots we’re supposed to make, playing our defense. We like to play a fast-pace game. We rebound and we’re gone. Our depth has been developing because people on the bench want to play. We’re playing with a purpose.’’ — Pierce
