Walther Christian used a strong first half to build a big lead and then held off several Guerin charges to pick up a 74-65 victory in the Class 2A Christ the King Regional semifinals.
The Broncos (8-17) trailed 4-3 early but ripped off a 13-0 run and would lead 39-24 at halftime. The Gators (8-19) cut the deficit to eight points twice in the third quarter. Walther Christian answered every Gators' surge to hold on for the win.
Guerin's Joe Binkowski and the Broncos' DJ Walton both had big nights for their respective teams, scoring 23 points apiece. Binkowski was 10-for-17 from the floor while Walton was 8-for-13, including 5-for-7 from beyond the arc.
BY THE NUMBERS
The Gators shot 22-for-48 from the floor while Walther Christian was 23-for-57. Lee Hardick added 17 points for the Broncos. Dan Siman and Anthony Marra had 10 points apiece for Guerin.
