Reed-Custer's frenetic pace was too much for Beecher to handle Friday, and the Comets took their first regional title since 2004 when they won the Wilmington 2A Regional. The Comets (18-9) advance to the Westville Sectional where they will play St. Joseph-Ogden in Wednesday's semi-final.
The Comets led the Bobcats (6-20) 30-20 with 4:00 to play in the second quarter before going on a 13-4 run to finish the half ahead 43-24. Beecher never recovered, and the Comets stretched their lead out to as much as 34 points in the third quarter, 70-36, with another 37-12 run.
Sophomore guard Travis Schoonover led five Comets in double figures with 22 points. Sophomore Brent Headrick added 14 points.
BY THE NUMBERS
Reed-Custer forced the Bobcats into 35 turnovers with relentess full-court pressure.
"We're trying to create as many possessions as we can. We're trying to get up as many shots as we can, and I think we did a decent job of that tonight. The only thing that slowed us down tonight is our kids got a little handsy and committed a few too many fouls," Reed-Custer coach Mark Porter said.
