The Zee-Bees (25-3) tuned up for their much-anticipated Friday night showdown with St. Viator by methodically putting away the home team in the 4A Rolling Meadows Sectional. St. Viator plays Wednesday night against Palatine. Last year, St. Viator knocked out Zion in the regional finals.
THE TURNING POINT
With 3:01 left in the third quarter, Meadows’ Pat Kramp hit a three-pointer to make it 37-30. But the Mustangs’ next field goal came with 4:05 left in the game and by that point, it was over at 49-35.
Zion-Benton senior Milik Yarbrough had 11 of his game-high 17 points in the first half.
BY THE NUMBERS
For Zion-Benton, Admiral Schofield had 13 points and appears to be rounding back into top form after injuring his hand three weeks ago. Trenton Curry added 10. For Rolling Meadows, Kramp scored 14 points and Matt Wojcik added nine. It was 14-2 Zion early, 17-4 after one quarter and 27-13 at halftime.
“I was pleased with how we started the game. At times in the second and third quarters, we struggled, but we finished strong. The game had its ups and downs. Admiral had a chance to practice ... he practiced three days, and he played Friday (vs. Mather of Chicago) and he played today. Admiral says he’s OK.” — Zion-Benton coach Don Kloth
