THE SKINNY

Leyden’s record remained perfect with a doubleheader sweep of Maine West Saturday afternoon at The Ballpark at Rosemont. The Eagles defeated the Warriors by scores of 9-4 and 8-5 to improve to 7-0 on the year.

TURNING POINT

Leyden never trailed in either game after jumping out to early leads. The Eagles led 2-0 after the first inning in the first game and 3-0 after the third inning in the second game.

THE STAR

Leyden freshman Jodi DuBrock was solid in both games. She drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the opener and had a pair of RBI singles in the afternoon contest.

BY THE NUMBERS

Picking up wins on the mound for the Eagles were sophomores Sammi Caputo in the first game and Kendall Duwall in the second. Both pitchers threw complete games and contributed at the plate. Duwall had an RBI single in each game and Caputo had a groundout that scored a run in the first contest. Alyssa Pegoraro and Grace Feldkamp had two RBI apiece for Maine West (2-4).

QUOTABLE

“We’re really pumped and excited [to be 7-0]. I’m always nervous before every game but I love starting at shortstop for this team. We stayed focused and we came with our bats and our pitchers were great today.” — DuBrock
