Central Community Unit School District 301 may break away from the Big Northern Conference in order to join a proposed new sports conference

Central Community Unit School District 301 may break away from the Big Northern Conference in order to join a proposed new sports conference.

Talk about the formation of a new conference originally came before the District 301 Board in November, 2013.

Steve Diversey, Central High School athletics and activities director, told the board this week that the proposed Kishwaukee River Conference would start with five schools: Central High School in Burlington, Marengo Community High School, Harvard High School, Woodstock High School, and Woodstock North High School.

“Once we have our core five schools, we will ask other schools to join us,” Diversey said. “We can go up to eight schools. I feel confident that this is the right move for us. The benefit will come from being with similar schools. The goal is to bring our letter of withdrawal before the Big Northern Conference in May so we can begin the process.”
