WESTERN SPRINGS — Lyons earned victories in three relays to help claim its seventh consecutive title Friday night in its own 31st annual Lyons Relays.
Lyons captured its 14th overall title overall at the 10-team meet. Lyons scored 129 points to top runner-up Plainfield South (99).
A win in the 3,200-meter relay (7:58.61) preceeded victories in the sprint medley and 1,600. The 3,200 featured three returnees from last year's state medalist: Ed McCarter, Dan Lupino, Henry Hostettler and Alex Lima.
Third place Thornton (87.5 points) won five events to Lyons' three, but the Lions' depth produced more points.
"The key to winning this meet is building team depth," Lyons coach Michael Danner said. "We've spent time throughout the season, several times a week, working on field events. The priority for us is to build a program that can compete at this level."
Lyons' other wins came in the sprint medley with Jim Rhode, Alex Zawojski, Tim Acker and Ben Gawthrop (3:39.15) and the meet-ending 1,600 with Matt Grider, Trevor Edgerton, Lima and Rhode (3:23.34).
