Niles West junior Vicki Tirovolas, the girls soccer team's all-time leading goal scorer, tore the ACL and meniscus in her left knee during a match against Glenbrook South on April 21.
She is scheduled to have surgery in the middle of next month, Niles West coach Brett Clish said, and will be out for the rest of the season.
“She was going for a ball and it just planted and gave out on her,” Clish said Monday afternoon. “She was out on the field, holding her knee, yelling my name. It made [a devastating moment] even worse.”
The forward had scored 10 goals for the Wolves this season while developing into an even more dangerous threat by looking to get her teammates involved. She has scored 43 career goals.
With Niles West experiencing a rash of injuries — Clish said five players are currently out due to concussions — sophomore forward Nichole Lopatin has stepped up. Lopatin set Niles West's single-game scoring record with five goals in the Wolves' 5-3 win Saturday over Willowbrook.
