Lockport doesn’t possess a player who figures to make a deep run in the state tournament, but it has depth with its doubles teams and finished with a 5-0 mark in the SouthWest Suburban.
The Porters haven’t won an SWSC tournament title and hope that changes when the meet takes place Friday and Saturday at Sandburg. The Eagles won the conference’s first five titles, while Homewood-Flossmooor and Lincoln-Way East each have won two crowns.
East was moved to the Red this season.
“We put up signs with our championships on the fences at our courts,” Lockport coach Bob Champlin said. “We’re using that as incentive to try to win it this year. All of our scores have been close this year. It’s going to be like that in the tournament.’’
It was incorrectly reported in Sunday’s SouthtownStar that Lockport finished third in its tournament on Saturday. The Porters lost to St. Ignatius 4-1 in the third-place match.
