Tony Baranek’s lists three things we should know about Southland-area softball after another week of action.

1. Lincoln-Way West might be unstoppable. So many people drive in runs, from Rachael Luckett (29 RBI) to Amanda Ruskowski (27) to Carly Souder (25) to Dani Morgan (21) that there’s nowhere in the order for an opposing pitcher to take a breath. And to outscore them? Good luck with that against Morghan Dieringer. It will take a perfect storm to keep them from going deep in the postseason.

2. Can Tinley Park do it? The Titans were able to last year in a shocking 1-0 win over Lincoln-Way West en route to the program’s firs trip downstate. What Tinley won’t have going for it in this year’s postseason is the element of surprise. Annalisse Scott, however, is a savvy pitcher, and among Scott, Sam Alberto and Lexxi Lux, the Titans have enough offense to overcome occasional lapses on defense.

3. About that Marist pitching ... Before the season there was a school of thought the RedHawks would score plenty of runs but not necessarily win a ton of games because there was no one to dominate in the circle. Zariya Gonzalez has more than stepped up, posting an 18-4 record with a sterling 1.62 ERA. She’s been excellent of late, beating both Lincoln-Way East and Lockport 5-1.
