No. 1: Brother Rice volleyball coach Paul Ickes has been named athletic director at Saint Ignatius. “St. Ignatius is an amazing academic institution with a storied history and a proud tradition,” Ickes said. “I’m very excited about the future there.” Ickes is leaving the ministry at Brother Rice at the end of the school year after 25 years of teaching, coaching and administrative service to help his family financially after the passing of his father in October.

No. 2: Addison Trail coach Tom Huber was forced to step down midway through the season for health reasons. But Huber’s longtime assistant, Glenbard South girls volleyball coach Chad Grant, stepped in and the Blazers have not missed a beat. Behind junior opposite hitter Alex Dickmann, senior outside hitter Anthony Chiaramonte and senior setter Kevin Grygo, the Blazers wrapped up the regular season with a 31-4 record and tournament titles at Rolling Meadows and Willowbrook.

No. 3: There’s a good chance Loyola and Hersey will meet May 30 in a sectional semifinal at New Trier. There’s also a good chance the teams will get to see a lot of each other Saturday at the Maine South tournament. They'll meet in pool play at the eight-team tourney, and could potentially meet in the championship match after the pool winners and runners-up complete crossover play.
