Two local athletes recently received Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for their contributions to the Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team.

Trinity alumna Mimi Ramirez, a senior outfielder for the Warhawks, was named to the All-WIAC First Team. She was also named to the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region Second Team. Through Wisconsin-Whitewater’s first 45 games, all of which she started, Ramirez was hitting .390 with a .412 on-base percentage and a .432 slugging percentage. She was leading the team in runs scored with 38 and stolen bases (11 on 11 attempts). She was second on the team in hits with 57.

Teammate Laura Eichenold, also a Trinity alumna, was an All-WIAC honorable mention and was named to the NFCA All-Great Lakes Region Third Team. The senior shortstop played and started in 44 of the team’s first 45 games. She was hitting .314 with a .338 on-base percentage and a .405 slugging percentage. She had also recorded 15 runs and 19 RBI through those first 45 games.

Also on the team is Mundelein alumna Haley Morelli, a freshman outfielder. Morelli had appeared in nine games for the Warhawks, recording three hits and a walk in nine at-bats.

The Warhawks defeated Benedictine 5–2 on May 11 in Chicago to win their regional tournament and advance to the Super Regional. UW-Whitewater went on to finish third in the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Senior pitcher Eli Anderson recently had quite a week for the Northern Illinois baseball team. The New Trier alumnus recorded his 200th career strikeout during a seven-strikeout, one-earned-run complete game victory against Akron on May 10 in DeKalb. It was his third complete game of the season. The milestone came less than a week after he was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week for his 11-strikeout, two-earned-run complete game win against Kent State on May 3 in Kent, Ohio.

Anderson sports a 3.44 ERA and a 4-5 record through the team’s first 51 games. His 71 strikeouts and 89 innings pitched both lead the team.

Several other area athletes are also on the team. Senior catcher Joe Battaglia, a St. Joseph alumnus, has played in 29 games and started 25. Senior infielder Chris Divarco, a Carmel alumnus, has played in 38 games and started 23. Jon Savarise, a Stevenson alumnus, is a sophomore pitcher. And senior pitcher and infielder Kevin Sweeney, a Fenwick alumnus, has made 13 relief appearances for the Huskies.
