ST. CHARLES — Harvey Foster’s two-day showcase, the Northwest Suburban Baseball Tournament, is the premier exhibition for Chicago-area high school baseball talent each June.

Returning for its second year at St. Charles North after a long-time run at Stevenson, the event was to feature on Friday the first round of eight nine-inning baseball games on two fields.

Nearly 100 college recruiters and about a dozen major-league scouts were expected to be in attendance. The attraction was the top rising seniors from the East Suburban Catholic, North Suburban, Mid-Suburban, West Suburban, Central Suburban, Fox Valley, DuPage Valley and Upstate 8 conferences.

The tournament’s first day includes a 60-yard dash for each player. Each team also participates in a photo shoot.

Players are nominated by their coaches and Foster, the former coach at Hersey, works with each parent to produce a profile. The book, which includes GPA/class ranks, ACT scores, cell phone numbers and academic highlights, is distributed to each recruiter.

Players invited from the WSC included: Barnett Trenton (Hinsdale Central); Charlie Harrigan (Lyons); Hector Herrera (Leyden); Thomas Hickey (Lyons); Matthew Merrera (Hinsdale South); Anthony Nicholas (Hinsdale South); Jack Oremus (Lyons); Matthew Patronski (Leyden); Patrick Rumoro (OPRF) and Dan Teska (Hinsdale Central).

Among the players from the ESCC invited were: Michael Ferri (Notre Dame); Matthew Flach (Nazareth); Michael Kogu (Nazareth); Ryan Kraer (Nazareth); Jonas Lehman (Carmel); Garrett McClellan (Carmel); Thomas Norton (Notre Dame) and Joe Rimac (Notre Dame).
