Nick Hardy didn't need extra holes to get what he wanted Monday.
The Northbrook resident shot 67-68 for a 7-under 135 at Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest to finish first at the U.S. Amateur qualifying tournament and earn a trip to the Atlanta Athletic Club next month.
Hardy lost the Illinois State Amateur in a four-hole playoff Thursday, but he rebounded to secure his second consecutive appearance at the country's most prestigious amateur event. The U.S. Amateur will be held Aug. 11-17 in Johns Creek, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.
Two other locals gained the other two spots Monday in Lake Forest. Wilmette's Charles Waddell placed second after rounds of 67-70, while Lincolnshire's Jack Watson took third following his back-to-back 70s.
