Ryan Nutof initially impressed with his bat by blasting a first-inning, opposite-field solo home run, before firing a one-hitter for five innings as South Elgin hammered Wheaton North by the slaughter rule, 10-0, in Thursday’s Class 4A Hoffman Estates Regional.
Wheaton Co-op left no doubt in Hinsdale Central’s gym on Friday night, winning its third consecutive state title with 161.55 points, easily ahead of the eight-team field. Runner-up Stevenson edged third place Lyons 153.7 to 153.65.
David MacDonald has been a fearless performer in the gym the past two seasons for Wheaton Co-op. You couldn’t blame him if he were a bit timid though during Wednesday’s Wheaton Warrenville South sectional.
David MacDonald won four events, dominating the competition with a 9.5 on pommel horse, 9.6 on vault, 9.65 on still rings and 9.75 on parallel bars as Wheaton Warrenville Co-op takes first place at Dave Donaldson Invitational.
Fresh off a dominant performance in the Krupke Invite at Lake Park on Friday, two-time defending state champion Wheaton co-op was at it again on Saturday afternoon, scoring 50.450 points at the Vic Avigliano invitational at Rolling Meadows..
Ethan Sansone is looking to end his career by winning a third straight championship with his Wheaton Co-op teammates. He’s become more of a team leader as his career has gone on and looks to teach his younger teammates how to handle success.

Juniors Roland Griffin and Tommy Koth combined for 30 points Friday at Wheaton North and the Blackhawks pulled away in the fourth quarter to claim a 50-38 decision and snap a two-game DuPage Valley Conference losing streak.
Wheaton North overcame deficits of 14-3 early and 53-39 late, closing to within 58-52 with 5:51 remaining, but Geneva held on to advance to Tuesday’s sectional semifinals at Addison Trail with a 75-63 victory.
