Chris Pedrak took advantage of a Waubonsie Valley error in the first inning with a two-run single to give pitcher Danny Spinuzza the confidence to pitch with a lead in the Mustangs 9-2 victory at the Class 4A Oswego Sectional semifinals.
In Wednesday’s 4-1 Class 4A Schaumburg Sectional semifinal win over West Chicago, Batavia's Jacob Piechota wanted to take care of the Wildcats. He did just that, tossing a complete game and getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh.
Batavia will meet No. 13 seed West Chicago in Wednesday’s sectional semifinal at Schaumburg, but after losing in the regional semifinals last year as the second seed, the Bulldogs know more than anybody that the seeds don’t matter.
Batavia senior Colby Green found out Wednesday that his grandfather in Oklahoma had passed away, so he pitched a one-hit gem for his grandpa and led the Bulldogs to their first regional title since 2009 with an 8-1 win over Willowbrook.
Anthony Holubecki only went four innings Friday, but he struck out eight and teamed up with Nick Henne to twirl a five-inning no-hitter in Kaneland’s 12-0 Class 3A Plano Regional semifinal win over Aurora Central.

Jack Morrissey, a four-year varsity player for Loyola, announced Tuesday that he has accepted an offer from Spring Hill College in Alabama. As a senior, he helped lead the Ramblers to a 25-6 record, a share of the Catholic North title and a Class 4A sectional championship.
