Vernon Hills’ athletic teams will play familiar North Suburban Conference opponents during the 2014-15 school year. Who the Cougars play after that is anybody’s guess.
There was no stopping Julia Bond and her Waubonsie Valley teammates on Saturday. Bond rolled the second-highest series in the history of the state finals to win the individual state championship and the Warriors became just the fifth repeat team champion at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford.
At The Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Evergreen Park's Sarah Klawitter finished 13th, one spot shy of becoming a medalist and earning All-State honors. But she had a stellar day, moving up from 29th place following Friday’s action to become the Southland’s top finisher with 2,588 pins over 12 games.
Jessica Colson finished in 18th place after the first day of state finals and qualified for day two after rolling a 1,292 Friday. Colson sits 153 pins out of first place and 25 out of 12th.

Freshman Jessica Soskich was the only bowler from Buffalo Grove who qualified for Saturday’s Zion-Benton Sectional at Sunset Lanes. You would never have known it based on the crowd support.

Every pin counts is a mantra of the Libertyville girls bowling team, and that was certainly the case Saturday at the Zion-Benton Sectional at Sunset Lanes in Waukegan.
Lockport, which won the SouthWest Suburban Blue Tournament, hopes its recent momentum will carry over to the state meet Friday and Saturday at Cherry Bowl in Rockford.

“For her to be able to advance on to the sectional as a freshman and doing it all on her own, it really was a testament to the passion she has for it already and the experience she already has,” coach Keith Ingersier said.
