In their first 16 games, the Titans won once and averaged 4.4 goals. Over the final 10 contests, the team went 5-5, averaged 7.6 goals a game and scored eight in the playoff opener.
Fenwick was forced to switch up its game and as a result posted a 6-3 win over St. Ignatius to reclaim the state title. The Friars lost in the quarterfinals last year after winning the previous two titles. It marks eight state titles since 2004 for the program.
Allison Travetto scored the first four goals of the game as Stevenson topped Mother McAuley 9-5. It was the Patriots' sixth state trophy since water polo became an IHSA sport in 2002 and first since finishing second in 2011.
Clare Bryar scored a game-high seven goals and Fran Williamson added five as Mother McAuley defeated Palatine 13-8 Friday in a state quarterfinal at Stevenson.
